Fauquier County, VA
Home MenuBoard of Equalization
Purpose
Bắn cáEvery four years Fauquier County is required by law to reassess the value of all of the real property, including improvements, within the county. The Code of Virginia requires the Circuit Court to establish a Board of Equalization as a method to equalize valuations for such reassessments and to conduct fair, impartial hearings on property assessment disputes, acting on the basis of relevant evidence submitted by the property owner and the Assessor's office.
Bắn cáMembers are made up of Fauquier County residents who are broadly representative of the community. In addition to seeking nominations through a published newspaper notice, traditionally the Board of Supervisors and Commissioner of the Revenue have also provided names of freeholders living in the county who are interested in appointment and might be selected by the Circuit Court for service on the Board of Equalization.
The last assessment was done in 2018. The process carries though 2021 with new assessed values taking effect in 2022. Planning and preparation is currently underway for the next assessment period.
Authority
The Board of Equalization is established pursuant to § 58.1-3370 of the Code of Virginia.
Term
The Board of Equalization term expires one year after the effective date of the assessment for which it was appointed to serve. The term of the last Board of Equalization ended on August 31, 2018.
